The cheap and nasty ones as I've found out are not worth buying. However there are some main stream brands at the $40-$50 mark that are full speed and the only bottle neck is the SATA.

I have tried a couple with my A1200 and buffered IDE controller but it's temperamental. Had one of Ebay from a China seller and it killed my FastATA, the power would short out on the HDD. I've now learned to use insulation (electrical) tape on the back.

Have a new FastATA on the way which comes with a SATA to IDE so will see how that goes.

Also have a couple of IDE to SATA in my Pegasos II and they work great, no noticeable slow down just the usual you would expect from an IDE drive.

These are the ones I use in the Peg board, they plug straight into the motherboard.

This is the one I used with the A1200 that I wouldn't recommend.
