How do I mount SCSI HD on my A1000?
« on: July 31, 2009, 02:53:01 AM »
I have a Microbotics Starboard 2 and dl'ed the only disk I found online - a mem test.  It also has a SCSI interface.  Do I need drivers for this or will it work under WB 1.3 without?

Any idea where to get drivers for this thing?  Thanks.

:-\

Someone must have the drivers for it.

Not that I've been able to find...  :-(

You have the Microbotics Stardrive module?  I also have this module but no disk...

That's not encouraging.  Have you looked (hard)?

______
Have you checked the StarDrive driver on http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/stardrive?
StarDrive is the optional SCSI module of StarBoard 2 in notes. There is a manual for
the StarDrive there also.

Wow.  Where on that page do you see a link to a Stardrive manual or software?  Thanks.

Since the software seems pretty elusive, I bet that thing autoconfigs?!? Have you tried renaming the device driver from scsi.device to something more logical for that unit? For example: stardrivescsi.device, or something similar?

I found in a thread somewhere that the device is named "stardrive.device".  Say I do rename scsi.device to that...what then?  I'm not even sure the specs of the MicroNet ext SCSI drive I have for it -- 1GB maybe.  How do I get it mounted, formatted?

The device uses the AMD (NCR orig) 5380...

...used in the Trump Card, Phoneix board, etc.  FWIW.

Ok.  I got the StarDrive install disk!

Now...the disk I want to install is an external Maxtor MXT-1240S -- it's got 15 heads, and specs show 2389 cylinders.

http://stason.org/TULARC/pc/hard-drives-hdd/maxtor/MXT-1240S-1240MB-3-5-HH-SCSI2-SE.html

So...the format software wants to know:

Low Cylinder (I say 1)
High Cylinder (I tried 2388 - and many lower)
Surfaces (I say 15)
Blocks Per Track (I say 17 based on some other example)

...it never works.  Other ideas?  It's a 1.25GB drive.  Terminated.

Help!

Ya, even 100MB is way more than I need on this A1000.

Oddly, when I scanned eBay, all the 50MB, 100MB, 250MB etc. old SCSI drives are like $80!!  WTF?!  I just bought a 320GB drive for my SAMiga for $69, new!!
