Can OS3.5 be installed without a CDROM ?
« on: January 05, 2009, 03:39:52 AM »
I found my copy of 3.5 in the bottom of a box, but my only Amiga these days is an A1200 with no CDROM (and no dual IDE thingy either).

Is there anyway to install OS 3.5 other than the CD ?

I've tried pulling the disk from the A1200 and attaching it to a PC running WinUAE, that happily does the install to the disk and boots it with no issues at all, but when I move the disk back to the A1200 it just hangs up on a black screen :(
I'm pretty certain I've matched the config of the WinUAE A1200 to my real A1200 (68030+68882 32mb etc etc)

Any pointers ?

Would I be able to copy the files from the CD to the hard disk (via WinUAE), then put rhe disk back in the A1200 and then run the installer from there ?  Or is there any copy protection for the disk ?

Thanks!

Mark

Didn't quite work for me :-(

The OS3.5 installer ran OK when I copied it to the disk, but after installing the pre then main distributions it would never come up after a the reboot.

I think it does the first boot and patches the ROm, but the 2nd boot then hangs on a black screen for a few minutes and then just gives me the "Insert a disk" animation :-(

I'm guessing something is not quite right with the ROM patch ?  Any guesses or things I can try ?

Thanks

Mark
