IP using RS232
« on: October 08, 2017, 11:53:28 AM »
I've managed to add Amiga500 to network using RS232 ( a request from fellow Amigist).
It works with mikrotik 'hap ac lite' router (~50eur), USB RS232 dongle, AmiPPP, AmiTCP.
First you need to connect everything, then disable 'serial console' on router usb1, so that you can add ppp interface on usb1. Its pretty much straightforward from there on, if anyone needs details, will post them.
Better sorry than worry.

@gertsy
go type something in M$ Word..

@RiP
it would work, I'm sure (check if you got PPP in options).
but you get ac wifi with this RB, and its inexpensive, tiny box.
Better sorry than worry.

think the only problem will be obtaining the reliable 'ppp device' for amiga. unfortunately,
those things were not free, so you'll need to do some searching..
for some reason, I had used amippp.device instead of ppp.device, maybe its more reliable.

anyway, when you configure, if authentication doesn't work, disable everything (on both server-mikrotik and client-amiga) except PAP.

edit:

found this site: http://www.davidfong.info/newton_tcp_Amitcp.html
hmm, it says ppp is better than amippp.

edit2:

you also need a good serial.device, I've used artser with 38400bps.
baundbandit is supposed to be best, but iirc it wasn't very reliable.
what CPU and KS do you have?
