I had similar issue, it was the infamous "flyback transformer".

well its a common cause of failure. There is this excellent site:

but dont try it, high voltage, leave it to professional, blabla.
Is there a high pitched noise?
The hardest part is finding replacement. Original is quite pricey. I found cheap Chinese copy, locally, think it was less than 10eur.
