Quarterback seems to have been popular (commercial) tool for backuping. Don't know how it would handle large HDDs, SFS, PFS..

It might be a good idea to make a very large archive of whole HDD, like
use lha with -a -r -x -e options. Just don't forget to write somewhere partition labels.
