A friend and I recently discussed this, he being a programmer (JAVA/C) and me being a Systems Engineer (Wintel/Linux).  We decided that there is no passion in the IT industry anymore.  It's filled with fake marketing and BS platforms that don't inspire the passion we had in the 80's and 90's for the work that we now do.  There is little inovation and engineering and TONS of marketing these days.  Return on Investment, Total Cost of Ownership, Zero Administration, E-enabling your business......  It all sounds the same and all reads like Microsoft's website.  Hell it even sounds like most of the Sales reps I deal with daily.  Anyone seen the movie Office Space?  I rest my case.   :-D
