Hi,

Is it possible to swap/replace the 25MHz CPU in an A3000D with a 50MHz one (and the crystal, etc)?

No as Red says, however it is possible to do the 50mhz hack on the 68882 coprocessor. I've done it succesfully in the past, but I wouldn't recommend it on such old hardware anymore. Best if you found a separate accelerator card.

OMG why torture the poor FPU with your pointless experiments ? what's the point of overclocking the fpu anyway ? any kind of improvement in any system related task ? No ? Then why risk burning your amiga for a stupid experiment ?

some ppl should not be given amigas ! (I mean not the spanish lesbians of course)

The FPU hack is not an experiment. Proven and works. Drop in a heat sink, maybe a fan.... My 3000 got that hack 10-12 years ago. Still runs fine. It was a cheap upgrade back in the day for those who wanted more rendering speed for graphics. If your one of those that kills ever thing you touch with a soldering iron then that's your problem.

And as I say... I don't recommend it any more. The hardware is too old, too scarce to replace and few need render speed hacks anymore.

Why would it not be possible to unsolder the 50mhz crystal and replace with a faster one (like 66mhz) to overclock the 030/882? I belive that the A3000's 030 is async - so it should not screw up the custom chip timings... By the same thought - I guess it is possible (but really really hard) to unsolder the 030 and install a faster one...

You maybe able to over clock a 3630 or 3640 expanson card that way, but you can't swap the CPU on the 3000 motherboard. There are too many other things on board counting on the timing coming from the existing crystal and CPU. You can't mess with them.
