Samba & DHCP
« on: December 02, 2004, 07:29:16 PM »
Hi there,

It took some time but I came up with a new subject.

My network comprises of:
a -- Amiga-A1200
b -- XP-Desktop
c -- XP-Laptop

They are all connected to a router which in its turn is connected to a DSL-modem.

The XP's use DHCP, so their IP-address may be different from  any previous situation. However, using SaMBa on the Amiga by means of a mount file, the Startup-line requires a fixed address in its 'C=' parameter (in my case: C=\\XP-Desktop:\).
Other parameters are:
MH=Amiga-A1200:
W=
U=
DM=XP-Desktop

How can I make this setup connect to a computer using ONLY its computername? And *NOT* the everchanging DHCP-issued IP-address.

Are there any experts around?
(An expert is someone who as more knowledge of the matter than I have, so here it is used as a relative qualification.)

Regards,

Jettah
