Genisis settings when using a router
« on: November 28, 2004, 06:13:32 PM »
Hi there

I've got a router to which I've connected up to now:
  -  Amiga A1200 using Genesis
  -  Desktop using Windows XP
  -  Laptop using Windows XP

The Windows-boxes connect to the net just fine. But somehow the A1200 doesn't do so well. I used to use ISDN on the A1200, but changed to ADSL some time ago. So now there is an ADSL modem followed by a router in the equation. Samba works fine both XP's can be seen, but firing up the browser or the e-mail client they do not understand where to look for the internet.

From the genesisPrefs
 (Interfaces --> Interface)
A1200's IP-address is static (192.168.1.149)
Destination set to dynamic (dunno what it is for)
Gateway IP-address is static (192.168.1.1, this is set same as Windows' default gateway)
Netmask set to 255.255.255.0

 (Interfaces --> SANA-II)
Device set to DEVS:Networks/x-surf.device
Unit set to 0

What should I change? Or what do you further need to know?

Regards

Jettah

These places you should also check:

- Is there a firewall possibly blocking your Amiga/it's IP?

* The router has a firewall built in, but should not harm the A1200.
* The A1200 can be pinged from either XP.

- Is your Amiga's static IP known to the Router and linked to it's hostname?

* Yes, the Amiga's static IP is known to the router, as it can be pinged from either XP.
* Where do I link it to its hostname?

Quote

- Is the Amiga's IP in the range of hosts.allow on the router (or outside the range of hosts.deny)?

* Yes, the A1200's IP address is within the range of allowed addresses of the router, as it can be pinged from either XP.

Using a different machine instead of the A1200, but using the same IP may also help finding the error.

Personally, I think something in the Genises Prefs file is not correct, but then again who am I? This not meaning that I am suffering from identity crisis. No Sir, not at all! :-)

Thanks for your reply
