The Newcastle Turd Monster.  LOL!

Mine is a tale of a lonely hiker on a remote trail in the forests of the south west...

After walking a few days alone on the trail I had almost become used to the loneliness of the huts at night, the strange night noises; howling and moaning of frogs, stomping of kangaroo, pre-dawn foraging rodents and glimpses of something large and shaggy seen (or maybe imagined) in the corner of one eye.

The thought did cross my mind that a fella could come to foul-play out here and no-one would know for weeks.

Sitting alone in one draughty hut late one evening, just as the sun was going down I happened to pick up the hut manifesto, there I learnt the chilling tale of the Mad Axeman.  Once a simple, quietly spoken woodsman in the forest, some unknown thing drives him to walk the trails in search of his victims.

The Axeman it is said, is wont to appear out of nowhere beside a hikers bed in the middle of the night with one thing on his warped and twisted mind. To bury his axe in human flesh.

Only when his axe is bathed in the blood is he content, only when the cries of slaughter and suffering have echoed through the trees is he satisfied.

And now the sun is gone and the darkness of a moonless night seeps into every corner.

@Kesa. Bibbulmun track, one of the huts between Donnelly River Village and Pemberton, if memory serves.
Its a yarn to entertain solo hikers like meself.  Put a shiver up me back that night when heading out to the drop toilet. Spoo-kee!  ;o)
