I just went through this w/ my a4000 hd floppy. It was the disk change switch at the front of the drive. I took the drive apart and used contact cleaner on both switches and it came back to life. No more df0:
or df0:Unreadable. Resurrected my 1200 floppy almost the same way, but it was dirty contacts for the two read/write head connectors on the pcb. Came close w/ an a500 floppy as well, just to see if i could. It would recognize again, but its out of alignment. read errors. Hope this helps.
