Amiga 3000 ?'s
« on: November 13, 2003, 06:08:22 AM »
I got my Amiga 3000 today in the mail. Been wanting a 3000 for the last 10+ years. Never could afford one back in the day. I am an old Amiga guy who has forgot most of the stuff. Playing around tonight with it. Much faster then my old 500.

2 questions up front and probably more later.....

#1
What kind of virus protection is out there now and is there still a problem with virus's? I will be getting a network card soon and get the 3000 on the internet. It has the 2.1 WB.

#2
It has a SCSI connection on the back of the Amiga.

My old 500 had the Xetec Fastrack scsi controller that hooked to an old XT case filled with my scsi HD's. Can I just hook that old case into this SCSI port on the back of the 3000 and access my old harddrives from way back?! Dont want to hose anything by plugging stuff in that I shouldnt have plugged in .

Man I am rusty! Wonder where my old USR HST Dual Standard modem is!
 :-P

Well the 3000 seems to be working fine. I have never used WB2.1 so its new to me!

I can not seem to get my old SCSI HD's to even be recognized on the 3000. I cannot find a SCSI program on the 3000 to add SCSI drives. The old Xetec controller I had on my 500 had a SCSI tools program that helped you to install SCSI HD's.  So the big NEWBIE question tonight is.......

How the heck do you install SCSI HD's on a 3000!!!

I ran a BBS on my old 500 and have 5 drives worth of file areas I would like to get on-line and accessible via the 3000. Was hoping the SCSI HD's would come up or let me select them in the SCSI Tool program on the 3000 but I cant find ANYTHING ANYWHERE that talks about Harddrives!  I know all about the SCSI Id's and have figured the 3000's controller is 7 and the drive in it is 6.

Someone point me in the right direction?!?!

Well I found HDToolbox  and I think thats what I would want to use for setting up a new drive. Dont want to format the old ones as they have valuable information on them. I may have to dig the 500 out and parnet over to the 3000.
