Setting HD to Read/Write
« on: April 17, 2004, 04:08:37 PM »
I have a stupid question ...

I wasa installing OS3.5 on my A3000 this morning. After the "pre" install step, I restarted my machine, started the install again. Once it started attempting to write the files I got an error stating that "Volume System is write protected"

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to set read/write on a read-only volume. Can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks in advance.
Mike

Hi Thomas,

This problem occurs on every boot. Sometimes, after a long period of being on, the status will change to read/write for some mysterious reason.

Running info from a shell says that the partition is read-only.

The good news here is that I have decided to axe that drive. It's old, slow and loud. I am going to dump a 4.5GB drive in there and the problem will most likely disappear.

Thanks for the suggestions just the same! :-)
