I don't know if you have already solved this problem, but, just in case someone else runs into it as well.

I have owned a few 1000's, there is a few things that can solve this problem:

1. Pop the front cover off, pull the memory expansion off and reseat it again. This is a famous "sagging" problem that A1000's have, anyone who has ever hung anything off of the expansion slot on the side knows what I mean.

2. If your A1000 was stored in a place that was even remotely damp, you might need to do some cleaning. Perform step 1, but, before you reseat the memory expansion, use a pencil eraser to remove grime and "black" staining on the gold contacts.
