I remember in the old days, we used to bake hard drives at a few hundered degrees in an oven.  Not to destroy them, but to fix them!

It seems that one or two early hard drives had lubrication that could be temporarily heated to the point where the bearings would un-seize, allowing data to be recovered from the disk.
