Well I got mine NOW, and its set up, and running.
(not online yet - I need to remember where I put my 9 pin serial cable D'oh !)

I say running - I mean its RUNNING like Forrest Gump bursting for a slash 30 miles from the nearest toilet !
you dont really need to know that much about linux, especially if you start a fresh hard drive, and can therefore use the Eyetech instructions, assuming you build it yourself. if you do, it'll be so rewarding to send your 1st email/make your 1st posting !
Also if you are used to NT as I am, on a similar spec PC (ie similar Clock, RAM etc) then you will be surprised how this thing flies - I did a rough check, and worked out it took a minute to get to the point to run programs in the Gnome envronment - that includes pressing the ON switch, waiting for the 5 seconds countdown, and getting my login / password wrong ! (silly boy - D'oh !)
Also, if you buy now, you may well be in time to catch the Earlybird offer - OS4 for free when it comes out.

(note to JoannaK - I said WHEN not IF - I believe this will happen (dunno WHEN though ;-) ), but it will. I spose it depends on how one views a glass of water :-D )

Yup, Hindsight is always 20:20, but if you dont try, you dont learn !  :-D

/edit
this was in response to JoannaK, for those of us that dont like the threaded mode. :-)

I heartily agree with the sentiment of not waiting too long. I would also say to all those indifferent about Linux should get one if they have the dosh. (and are reasonably technically savvy  you can make a bit of a saving) it is easy to use if you follow the instructions provided, and X (particularly Gnome) is quite intuitive (especially where windows isnt :-) ), and if that is still too much, get MoL.

that way (if you get in for the early bird) you will get Aos4 (eventually ! ;-) ) and you will already have the equipment.

I spent £700 on mobo, gfx, ram and cpu. that was about the price of an original A500 when it came out.
ok, that wasnt in kit form, but it didnt have a monitor either !
and besides, If I wont NEED to upgrade for 5 years, I'll be happy (I'll WANT to, no doubt, but hey, boyz toyz an' all that !)
