they would be unlikely to be EEPROMS - those are the Electrically Erasable variety.
EPROMS (the UV jobs) are IIRC cheaper.

aside: I got 3.1 ROMs from Eyetech with OS3.5 - they didnt have windows. I didnt remove the stickers either !!

The Metal shield is to comply with various (FCC and EU to name but two) regulations on EMI compliance - ElectroMagnetic Interference - its to stop all that EM noise leaking out and interfering with other things, and vice versa. shouldnt cause much of a problem without it really.

yes, just lob a sticker over the window bit.

If you are doubting the need for EEPROMS for kickstart 3.1 Roms, then why are the two you just sent to me (A1200) EEPROMS ?
