it appears it wasn't a scsi driver issue afterall but was the fact that my internal Spirit 1000 board did not like my other 2MB external ram card.  Once I disabled the ram box the HD booted up right after I installed the kickstart disk!

Yeah, I'm sure you probably had a few bus issues just getting the stuff set up in the first place.

The only memory I could ever get working with my DataFlyer controllers wa  the 8 megs on the DataFlyer itself. (Not counting 32 bit memory on the Derringer.)  

But it seems that more than one device involving the expansion port was hit and miss at best.  I had even procured some custom PAL's to adjust the timing on my Rejuvenator, but even then a pull-up resistor was needed on one pin of the expansion bus.
