The peg2 is still a pretty good alternatve, I'm happy with the one  i have but i wish there was a way to upgrade the graphics to something better than the radeon9xxx. I have used a sam460 equipted with a radeonhd for a few minutes and while there is no w3d support for the newer cards yet i felt that it was better at 2d and would like to have that speedboost on my peg2 too.

There is no alternative to the X1000 yet- not until the X5000 comes out. The Peg II is far slower than the X1000 .

Speed isn't everything ;)

Thanks for your help. What's the difference between the X5000 and X3500?

Same motherboard, different CPU.
The X5000 have a Freescale P5020 CPU 2GHz, 64-bit e5500 dual-core PowerPC SoC.
X3500 will have a P3041.
Thers another modell too that should have an P5040
