Speaking as a non scientist, I will ask a question.  It may be stupid, but i'll ask it anyway.

Is it possible (and safer than burying) to package the waste up and dump it in outer space somewhere?

Maybe we should just dump it all on an island far away from the civilised world that no one really cares about.
