Bundled Versions of the A1200?
« on: May 18, 2013, 01:39:41 PM »
Does any one know if there has ever been an American/U.S. version of the commodore amiga 1200, if so, what was the system bundled as, as I see there was a desktop dynamite bundle, comic relief bundle, and a magic bundle, I am also interested in knowing what motherboard revisions there were in these bundles, and if they were significant.
There was a time I can remember computers were fun...I miss my A1200.

It has been a decade since I owned an amiga, I am looking to buy a I unmodified A1200 commodore model, but all I find are some bundles from the UK and Germany, and also a couple of amiga technologies versions. I'm not sure if I purchased from amikit-us, I would get a NTSC model, I know it will have the disk drive problem, and no American keyboard. My last A1200 had pound sterling symbol, so I'm not sure if the system was ntsc or pal just set in boot to NTSC or not. I'm worried that if I get an a1200 from overseas, will it work with my dell 2005fpw monitor which has both vga and dvi inputs and a vertical refresh range of 56Hz to 75Hz with exception 1680x1050 at 60Hz only, the monitor also has s-video and composite inputs also.

Oh my god, I've gone Noob...is this what Alzheimer's seems like?

So then the amiga technologies a1200 magic bundel I had was a NTSC model with a European keyboard? Or we're they pal set to boot into NTSC?  Another thing is if I purchased a pal A1200 with a hard drive installed, and say 3.1 kickstart roms with os 3.5 or 3.9. Is there a way to have workbench boot automatically to NTSC mode or is the only way with two mouse button boot screen?

Magic bundle was NOT COMMODORE it was "ESCOM"

DO NOT get a PAl a1200 for usa. You will have problems viewing PAL unless you have a 1084 monitor.

That's what I thought, but what if I added the indivision internal scan doubler with VGA?

I can't be sure but I have a feeling that a Dell 2005fpw may well be capable of displaying both PAL and NTSC.

If you get an Indivision scan doubler then you should have no trouble whatever monitor you use and the picture quality will be a lot better.

Wow, you know, now I have to check into that to see if it can, how ever, when I do pick up my A1200 I'm sure the indivision will not be far behind, thanks
