Do you mean the contact pads on the pcb or do you mean the connector that plugs into the atari/amiga? I am trying to figure out what you mean by "flat". Is this a classic atari (2600) joystick?

When you described them as being, "flat" I assumed that is what you meant but wanted to make sure. There is a common method of reviving those contacts using aluminum foil and crazy glue, if I remember correctly.

Head over to atariage.com and do a search..I think there is a tutorial on youtube as well.
