Hardly, the last hurricane to hit the Louisiana area was over 35 years ago...

Last big one to hit NO was Betsy in 65, before most of your time, and it was about 1/2 as big as the one over the Big Easy right now.  Katrina is one of the largest storms to hit the US, in the league with Andrew and Camille though hopefully we won't see a loss of life like the one which hit Galvaston in 1900, killing over 6000 people.  By sometime tonight they will likely close our airport and we are over 200 miles as the crow flies, and we could see as much as a foot of rain and of course our old friends the tornados.

Only downgraded because its inland, it hit NO as a strong 4/low 5, its eye is 100 miles inland and its still a class 2.   Weather will be hitting us here in huntsville in the next hour or so.
