This does (somewhat) work. I was able to mount a 2G IDE (2.5" from my A1200) and read it's contents. But, when I tried my new 20G ATA-6 2.5" it would lock up my system completely. So, there could be a problem with DMA drives (the drive worked fine in with PC formats). I ended up preparing the drive in my A4000.
