If you bid what you are willing to pay, not the lowest possible bid at the time, then the 30 minutes won't matter. I know the early bid strategy isn't as popular as sniping, but it's saved me tons of money on impulse bids over the years (and, it's not like the snipers EVER got anything cheaper than my highest offer so...)
