I don´t know about the Mk2, but Mk3 fits in my A3000 desktop without a problem, so I don´t see why you think it JUST fits.

Heat-wise I can agree with you, that the 3000D case isn´t the best, but I didn´t have any problems with the physical fit. It was som time since I towered the computer, but as I can recall there was some space between the SIMMs and the drive plate. Perhaps there are different revisions of the board?
