Hi mate..
Ok, I don't know anything about telnetd.device, but I know a bit about telser.device and getting Amiga boards accessbile via telnet. First of all you're half way there with AmiTCP installed. Download telser from aminet, along with the keyfile which should be a recent upload on aminet by now. Thinking about it i've only ever done this with miami (but you still need AmiTCP installed). Set up the miami database/inetd list so it know what to do when it receives a telnet request (it points to telser, and there are simple instructions in the telser docs on how to do this). Edit the config file for how many units you want.
Then load up your bbs software, tell it to forget about serial.device and use telser.device instead...then..connect to the net, telnet to your computer and log on! BBS online
