Cybervision 64/3D, A4K - 1 Step Forward, 2 Steps Back
« on: November 23, 2003, 04:01:47 PM »
Ok, so I finally pluck up the courage and desire to get the Amiga out of the wardrobe and try again to get it working with the Cybervision.

After a fresh Workbench 3.0 install I install CGfx v3 but this time I tell it that it's installed in a Zorro II machine. After rebooting IT ACTUALLY GETS TO WORKBENCH without CRASHING! So nervously I delve into Prefs and reach for the CGFx screenmode utility, a bit of hard drive activity then...nothing. The program just doesn't load. No error, just...hard disk activity then nothing. Everything else loads without problem, just the one damn program I need the most at that time.

I try and install it again but this time admitting i'm on a ZorroIII machine and as per every other it crashes before reaching Workbench. Picasso96 does the same as in the previous threads by me, presents a graphics card screen on the PC monitor but crashes when you try to do something like open a device.

Any advice (other than sell it on EBay)?

I installed P96 on a fresh install of Workbench so there are definately no left over files from previous CGfx installs. I'll set SnoopDos on it and see if that can find out what's going wrong.

Hopefully it is the Buster rather than a knackered Cybervision/Amiga 4000. If only my Buster wasn't surface mounted!

Well, I ran Snoopdos and it said it was failing because it couldn't find cybergraphics.library in libs:. So I pulled that off aminet (found it inside a CGX v2 update disk) and dropped the necessary library into libs:. Ran CGXMode again and it still didn't work - although Snoopdos was satisfied (no more "Fails" or anything to work with). So, I loaded the CGXInfo program and it told me I had 0 graphics board installed. I tried reinstalling my later v3 update of CGX but as zorro 2 although it doesn't crash it doesn't do anything (including even recognising the board) and as zorro 3 it just crashes as Workbench is loading.

I know the last owner used an OpalVision card. Could he have set any jumpers on the mobo which might be in conflict with the Cybervision? Clutching at straws now.

This is a bloody, expensive disaster. All I want to do is recapture the magic of my Amiga days, hook it up to the net, run AmIRC again, HAVE FUN. Instead it's been a nightmare.
