Getting an GVP 2000 HC+8 working with my a4k
« on: September 15, 2003, 10:26:35 AM »
Along with an a4000 which I recently purchased second hand it came with the added bonus of having a GVP Impact 2000 HC+8 card along with an onboard hard drive and scsi cd-rom, all of which were not working.

The early-start up expansion board describes the card as working so I don't think there's an actual problem with the card. However, HDToolbox does not recognise any other hard drives connected to computer other than the IDE drive.

Do I need any driver software to get this card working and if so where would I be able to find it/download it? Or perhaps it's because their IDs are incorrectly setup? I've never used scsi before so wouldn't have the first clue in assigning IDs to different devices (although I remember you can use up to 8 devices, one of which is the card itself). Are there any good sources of online information or perhaps even a scan of the original manual?

It would be excellent if I could get this card working along with the hard drive and CD!

Thanks

Ok, things are a little clearer now and i've a few tricks to try (along with a dms file of the original install disk which might be useful!).

One other thing though, termination. I don't seem to have any terminator plugs which i'm a little confused about. Do internal devices not need termination? How would I set up say an internal HD and an internal CD? I know that the chain should be terminated at each end, so would that mean both a cd and the hd need terminating and the scsi adapter is in the middle of the chain? What happens when you add external devices? Aghh!

But how do you know what order the devices are in?
