My ideal classic (WHDLoad capable) machine would definitely be an A1200D expanded with an 030 accelerator card that is PCMCIA friendly, offers fast ram expansion, and offers SCSI expansion through the mini-expansion slot in the back of the unit (next to the floppy drive).

Something along the lines of Blizzard 1230-IV w/SCSI or DKB Cobra w/SCSI or GVP 1230 Jaws w/SCSI would be ideal.
