@X-ray:

May I ask why do you need single-sided 32MB simms?
I can point you to normal double sided 32MB simms that work fine with CSPPC.
Is it due a space issue, e.g. clock crystal on your CSPPC is in a socket?

Alternatively, there are also extra slim double-sided 32MB simms out there that fit better than normal 16MB single-sided simms to most simm slots out there.

EDIT: Oh, I guess I was too late with spotting your EDIT. :-)

Check this out.

Top view...everything looks pretty normal...can't see the big difference.

Side view...tadaaaah. :-)

See how thinner that one is than the other one (standard sized) 32MB simm module?

It's a bad picture, and doesn't really portray how slim this module is, however I agree...it would probably still be a longshot as far as fitting it with that tall oscillator in place.

Why don't you desolder the socket and put a 50mhz oscillator back in, like how it was originally supposed to be? It depends what you want more. Extra speed or more ram. :-)

I think that Framiga may be right. Any kind of non-standard format of 72-pin simms usually doesn't work on Phase 5 accelerators, so it's very possible that these single sided 32MB simms wouldn't work, or at least they would show up as 16MB each.

I have four slim double-sided 32MB modules (Kingston brand) that have 2 memory chips per side. These are probably the slimmest simms that I've ever seen. Every single Phase 5 card that I tried those in (1230-IV, BPPC, CSPPC, CSMK-II) detected the simms as 16MB each. Even my friend's old PC Pentium 1 failed to recognize them as 32MB each...yet the label on them clearly says 32MB, as well as specs on the web.

In any case, your best bet is to find a standard 32MB double sided simm, with extra small memory chips. I am sure that lots of them exist out there that would work with Phase 5 cards just fine.

You need to be patient. :-) That, or like I said before, try to desolder the oscillator socket and put the oscillator back onto the PCB as it once was. Maybe get a skilled person to do this for you, if you are not confident enough of pulling the job out yourself.

@Framiga:

:-(

I guess it's not worth it when it comes to messign with a CSPPC card in order to boost performance. It's a very fragile card, so no overclocking, no 68060 cpu removal (weak socket), no pressign down on the PPC fan/heatsink, use standard memory...and the list goes on. :-)

Job well done! :-)

Now go to your nearest river or a lake and throw in your soldering iron, so that you could not mess with the ppc card again. ;-)

Also, don't forget to post pictures of your handywork so I can criticize it. :-D :-P ;-)

@BadBigBen:

He'd need at least a pair of those in order for them to possibly work as CSPPC memory controller is 64-bit so memory needs to be installed in pairs.
