X-surf 2 is a pretty cool card. Definitely the best solution for an Amiga with Zorro slots, at the moment. I have one and I've got no complaints so far. Works like a charm.

Of course, if you are looking for a fast ethernet card, then perhaps getting a Mediator + 10/100 mbit nic card wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Why?

Well simply because it is still in production, unlike other Zorro eithernet cards, and installation is pretty simple for a newbie. Also, the card is very reliable, which is of course the most important thing, IMHO.

I think that it would be kind of pointless to track down a used Ariadne card, and pay more than for a new X-Surf II.

Bit of an overkill for only getting ethernet, innit? And not much faster either.

Yes, but once he makes that leap, he'll never look back. :-) Maybe I shouldn't have said Mediator, but a PCI bus-board solution, as there are other bus-boards available out there, that would do more than an adequate job.
