The Best "Failed" Console / Computer?
« on: February 22, 2005, 03:05:59 PM »
Hey Yo!

Yeah, i missed you too. I hope you wont mind me taking a little.... SURVEY!!! In public, if you will. I was wondering what people thought the best "failed" computer or console was?

My personal favourite would the Neo Geo AES. Such a fantastic arcade perfect experience in your home. The Neo Geo AES was never going to be commercially popular due to the high priceof not only the system itelf (costing $600), but the games as well (costing $200 each). but thanks a great library of great games, the Neo Geo developed a cult following and outlasted it's 16-Bit rivals (SNES and Genesis) to continue up until the last year.

What is your favourite "failed" computer or console

Regards,
A1200D / AGA / B1260 / 64MB RAM / KS 3.1 / AOS 3.9 / 4GB HD

The Amiga was commercially sucessful (especially in the UK). So that would not be an option. Nice try fellas :-)

Regards,

-EDIT-

By failed consoles i mean:

Panasonic 3DO
Philips CDi
Sharp X68000
Sinclair Quantum Leap
Atari 5200
Atari Lynx
Sega Nomad
GP32
Sam Coupé

....etc - The list goes on!!!

yeah, but they all failed because they were crap... the winners won, because they were good. :-P

OH! Very controversial remark there Mr. Bloodhound. That is not always the case. The GP32 is a very good console, but commercially will never be a success due to financial difficulties with the Gamepark (the company). "Underground" wise, the GP32 is a complete success.

btw the lynx was quite succesfull wasn't it :-?

It had a few games, but was not a success due to low battery life. It is a damn fine machine though, i have one!

but still, despite the known low battery life, I still recall it as being a bit successfull, not quite as the gameboy, but certainly not a failure either...

I think it was. It lasted longer than i thought it did (1989-994). But it was a failure really because only a handful of games came out. Although, games are still being made for it today (Apline Games).

Hey yo!

The Dreamcast version of Quake 3 kicked butt most definately! :-) The VMU is okay, although the top of it becomes loose after a while.

Anyone got a GP32 BLU?

I'm thinking of getting one, because of all the different emulators you can get for it, even the Playstation! :-o

I haven't seen any evidence of a UAE port to it yet though.

I have a GP32 FLU. Bloody good machines they are. Mega Drive emaultion and SNES are gob smacking

Whats the difference between the FLU and the BLU versions?

Hey Yo!

The FLU stands for "Front Lit Unit" (which has a front light on the screen similar to GBA SP) and BLU stands for "Back                                  Lit Unit" (which is similar to the back lit handhelds like Game Gear Atari Lynx). I hope this helps

@Speel

Did you have any trouble with the connector for the power supply on the Atari Lynx. My old one came loose and broke. And my newer one is coming a little loose, but am having it repaired and made more stable.
