From a hardware perspective, I don't see why it wouldn't work, however it all depends on the size and orientation of the board. It's quite cramped inside an A1000.

Don't know what you mean by "older"? However, I had no luck with an M-tec 68020i going into an A1000 without the use of some sort of adapter board. I know there is a member here who has done it, perhaps their adaptor board will do the trick?
