The most stable WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) wp program is, IMHO, FinalWriter97, but it lacks one feature: figures placement inside text, not as sepparate layer. Amigawriter was nice try to be a very good one but it less stable and very memory-hungry. When it came to lots of  graphics inside one document - it ate all available memory (used to have 32 MB then, didn't try it with 64 though). It didn't worth the money I paid for it. Now I'm using LaTeX, which is free, and it's very hard to convince me to go to back to WYSIWYG editor, not to mention the fact that it runs on many platforms, so the same files can be used on Amiga, SGI, AIX, Linux and even Windows. It is wordprocessing language.

My conclusion is:
1. If you need WYSIWYG wp and have lot of RAM or there's no need to include big amounts of graphics -  AmigaWriter

2. If you need WYSIWYG wp and dealing with lot of graphics is essential - FinalWriter97

3. For serious scientific wp, letters , no fancy effects - LaTeX is the only choice.

Jack.

P.S. there's another option - Pagestream, but it is more professional DTP program than wordprocessor.
