automatic assign tool

Hi all,
Do you know a program that would allow me to assign something on the fly (without having to edit my user-startup) ? I know it exists but could not remember what it was. Very usefull for assigning duke3d dir.

@ framiga : it is not permanent because I often use to install/desintall things.
