in my case, it is a cdrw drive that gets ejected (acer x4x4x32) but my dvd drive is fine. Have a look on

how is it connected ? as slave but on the same IDE as the HD ? Than put it as master on the 2nd IDE and remember to connect the end of the cable (and not in the middle) to the devices.
