Well, I used the Alfa Data CD1200 device, and it's really easy to use, and no modifications has to be made.
The device is hooked to the PCMCIA port, and power is taken from the floppy port (so an external floppy drive has to be able to connect more drives).
I don't really use it that much any longer as it's at my parents house :-(
