Problems with Quake 2
« on: June 29, 2005, 09:34:57 PM »
Hi,

I´m having problems with my Quake 2 installation on my Amiga 1200 with BlizzardPPC and Mediator/Voodoo3.

The thing is, when I doubleclick the QuakeIIGUI icon in my Quake2 drawer, then the intro loads with the id logo banging through the screen in fullscreen. All well there. It then loads the main menu, but it pops up in a window, which I´d rather have was in fullscreen. How can I force the program to open all its screens in fullscreen? It is quite annoying to first see fullscreen, then window, then fullscreen and then window once again when I´m about to play.

Second thing is, when the game has loaded, and I ready to play, all my character does is to go around in circles. This of course makes it unplayable unfortunately.

The sad thing is, I only have this installation, as I lost the Quake II box when moving. Can someone help out, or do I have to buy this game once again? If so, does anyone have the fully boxed game they would want to sell?

@lempkee

Maybe I have confused it with Heretic 2 then? Better have to take a look around here, and see if it pops up.

Anyway, the problem is, when I click the QuakeIIGUI icon, the game loads, shouldn´t a GUI pop up like with WipeOut? Or does it just boot right into the game?

@keropi

When Im able to play the game it runs mighty fast, just as fast on my laptop PC, so no problems running Q2 on AMiga.

Wizard.library is both in libs and in progdir, but maybe it´s  missing something else aswell. If I try to just go to a Shell and type Quake2 the machine just hangs :-(

Just ordinary mouse connected, so no adaptor is playing tricks on me.

I found out that if I delete the config file in baseq2, and then start the game the character doesn´t run around in circles. At the next start of the game it does :-(

Turns out that my settings wouldn´t been saved when run through the GUI file. No tooltypes was present in my icon, as I just had copied a icon to the file, as the original where deleted :-(

Runs now, perfectly I might add :-)

@keropi

I wouldn´t mind throwing the laptop away, but since it´s only two years old, I can´t justify it.

Maybe you should better try to dig into how you could get your Q2 running smoothly. The background demo runs as fast on my Amiga as it would on a PC. The only difference would be the screensize.

Maybe 27 fps isn´t enough for you, but it is for me. Dunno what fps rate it runs at here anyway.
