Powering the A590 from the A500's PSU

Before going ahead with modifying my A590, has anyone here tried these mods? It would be nice not to need the extra PSU for the A590.

I'm actually thinking of doing the mod because there is something wrong with my A590's power feed. The power to the HD is flaky, and keeps cutting off every now and then. I've tried to find the reason but it's not broken solder joints as I first suspected.

As far as I can tell, the PSU of my A590 appears to be fine. I did suspect the power lead, and I have replaced the part that goes from the PSU to the A590 (including the connector). However, this did not affect the problem.
