Commodore's new portable
« on: June 16, 2005, 02:08:05 PM »
Commodore's new MP3/MPEG portable has been released,

Quote from the Stuff Magazine article:

"A capacious, nay, rapacious 30GB hard drive gobbles down MPEG 4, DiVx 5.0 and WMV9 files, while also despatching MP3, AAC, WMA and little known G726 audio files with aplomb, whatever a plomb is."

THIS is what Amiga should have been doing for the last five years, as it would have even fit with their AmigaAnywhere philosophy.

Oh My God... I just realized why I need one of these.  Imagine being able to take it on a long flight and put two or three movies on it rather than having to lug around the comparatively large portable DVD player!

Well, unfortunately Amiga doesn't make a PMP that I can take on an airplane, and considering the size/portability issue, it looks to be perfect for that use.  Dunno about the price (isn't posted yet I think) but it'd still be more useful to me and cost less than an ODW or AmigaOne.

PSP isn't intended for Video, and there aren't any 30GB memory cards that I'm aware of..  :)

It's cool, but what I think they should do is take the guts out, and make a C64DTV in a Gameboy form-factor with that nice looking display.

Absolutely agreed.

It makes $ for Microsoft.
Yes, in order for them to play .WMA and WMV9 files, they have to play a licensing fee to MS. It's just part of that creeping fascism/corporatism.

There's nothing abnormal here.  WMA and WMV9 are Microsoft plugins and specs.  It's no different than having to license Jpg to show them on a device nowaday.
