I think it's hilarious that they write these articles, actually. Look at the great new features in our great new OS!

Especially when all they write about is the great new functionality for developers. If it ever appears maybe games developers will be able to look at it sitting dormant while a developer kit appears sometime after.

Maybe sometime after a game will appear that uses it. Hyperion will release one maybe.. or maybe they won't, as is the case with many of their "announced" great products :)

As for "better on MorphOS/Pegasos", I wouldn't go that far. Why would anyone affiliated with the aforementioned products want to go anywhere near Steffen Hauesser's screwed up fantasy APIs?

If Genesi decides they need a better input API, they'll make one. We have people on board who are dedicated to this kind of technology (Chris Hodges etc.) and know their way around the input foibles of the OS and so on.

Note that if it appears, it might be useful, but how many new things will use it? Even Chris might end up working on the greatest input API ever created, but who would use it? :)

There are much better things coming for MorphOS than "joystick enablers", rest assured, and we don't need to run around stirring up excitement with such an article. You'll all get suitably excited the day it happens, no run-up or fluffing required.

Resist what?

Articles about stuff that doesn't exist just breed two things.

They are excitement and resentment.

The excitement is unwarranted in this case - it's only a joystick API. Given the track record of Steffen Hauesser, also, his past set of APIs released for the Amiga were poor at best. His "RTGMaster" API was the pinnacle of redundancy, since it basically "gave a single common API between Picasso96 and CGX" - when they already had it, they both supported the cybergraphics.library interface anyway - the defacto standard on the Amiga.

(guarantee that whatever API AmigaOS 4.x uses for RTG, they have a cybergraphics.library emulation for it..)

You can bet there are some games developers out there who will resent the fact that they are "teased" with these features but will not be able to use them until WELL after OS 4.x release. But Hyperion have a head start with these features. This is what people perceive as unfair competition..

Whatever the case, neither situation is what I would consider "wanted". You either get rabid fanboys jumping up and down or you lose the most respected of your developers, or both. Which means all you have left is rabid fanboys and people willing to talk against you. That's the start of a fight!

Okay, I guess at the end of the day rabid fanboys are an easy userbase to sell to, guaranteed 100% sold out if you know how many there are :D

As for "there should be some for MOS", I could write articles about them, but I know for a fact they'd end up as "features" in OS4 before the day was out. I'm not giving away stuff that easily. Also whatever happens they aren't finished yet, even in design sometimes, so why even tell you? Just so you can get excited?

Why are you so eager to be excited? :)

I think Hyperion should spend some time actually finishing the operating system, rather than writing useless articles about it.

One thing we can say about MorphOS, for all it's failings and slightly raw quality, it's out there and we had 6 releases of it so far since the very first. It's running on some very nice PPC hardware too.

Does AmigaOS 4.x have this to any degree? No, and I think this is why I feel this way. You can write articles all you like, you can excite or piss off your Community a lot in that time between, but if you don't show them the goods and give them a money shot, they will never be truly pleased.
