Cool demos/cracktros which actually WORK on an a600?
« on: May 03, 2008, 07:39:15 AM »
One of my favourite things about the Amiga is/was those cool crack-group intros that would come on a lot of games (which we all legally purchased as well of course)- I often just loaded the games just to watch the demo intros and listen to the cool music. Sad part is- the good ones mostly seem to come from non-dos floppy disks, and only work on the a500, and after all the effort I've just gone to reviving my a600... I can't be arsed.

Anyone got any hot favourites they can link to? (as adf, or just the demo files themselves)- my favourites were: the "Invisible Crime"/ Banana intro off the Batman game... and the Paradox intro from Ghouls n Ghosts... awesome music.

Most of the cool stuff I've tried to run on my 600 just makes it crash... Commodore didn't care much for compatibility between chipsets eh...

Thanks heaps for the help getting this thing running too by the way =)

Have you tried going in to Early Startup and degrading the chipset to OCS? Or using a degrading utility to make your A600 more like an A500?

I've checked the "Early Startup" -(that's the `hold-both-mouse-buttons-on-boot' trick hey?)- there's no OCS option that I can see. I have other "degrader" software and a kick1.3 file... it resets to an oldschool WB blue disk thing, but then the HDD is off limits, and let's all face the osolescence of floppies together, can we? DF0: is a dreadful option.... please don't tell me that's all there is.

I downloaded about 30 of those demos from Pouet... and 4 actually loaded, and 2 of those even returned to AOS without causing a crash on exit.

My specs: Amiga a600, with 2 meg ram total, Amiga Release 2, Kickstart 37.300 Workbench 37.31- 4gb CFHD, PCMCIA CF bay.

Can anyone name one single  improvement this dreadful v2 chip has over the 1.3 release? Nothing FUN actually works on this piece of junk...

Is there any dignified (simple) way to one-click transform to the 1.3 kick, while still keeping the hard-drives accessible... and be able to run df0: intended software painlessly? (WHDLoad a bit tricky so far)

I think I need some stronger coloured rose-tinted glasses for this thing... it's making my xp machine look so much better, and that wasn't meant to happen!

;)

Thanks RKauer- that sounds like a pretty solid solution! Unfortunately, so foar aminet has only produced "vaginaextremus.lha" ( :-o )from the remus search, and google links seem dead...

Any other a600 users out there with this file already operational? sounds like a great solution...

=)
