A4000D boot problem - HELP!
« on: April 14, 2010, 02:49:43 AM »
Hmm... Just picked up (actually, it arrived via post) my first A4000D, but it doesn't seem to boot.

When I power it up, the screen stays blank, but the power light flashes rapidly 7 times.

It's an 040, KS3.1. I removed all cards tried again, but got the same thing.

When I remove all SIMMS I get a green screen and the power light flashes 10 (or 11?) times.

I've tried removing the A3640 CPU board and reseating all of the chips on the MB with no luck...

Can anyone suggest what else I could try?

I'll be soooo p*ssed off if I've bought a lemon :-(

Cheers,

Mike.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply...

I actually found the problem - nothing wrong with the A4000 - it was my monitor... :-)

I'm using an NEC II Multisync montior and for some reason (could be my
cable) when it's plugged in, the machine behaves as I described. When
I unplug the cable from the monitor, everything works fine...

Strange, but true... I had similar issues with an A1000, but it works
fine with an A500 and A1200 - weird... It just occurred to me to try
it without the monitor and everything was okay. Then I had to
reassemble it all! All seems fine now... Sorry for the minor
heart-attack! :-)

Mike.
