Strange mouse and keyboard problems - faulty CIA?
« on: July 06, 2009, 12:15:56 AM »
Hi again,

Now my A1000 boots very nicely, since I created a clean KS disk, I've now come across another couple of related (I think) problems with the mouse and keyboard.

The mouse is an original A1000 mouse and is working 100% (tested on my A500 and it is fine). When I use it on my A1000 I have the following very strange issue.

Both right and left single-click work fine, but when I double-click (on an icon/drawer), it doesn't perform the expected 'open' action. The icon seems to show that it is recognising the double-click - but it doesn't react.

The second issue is that the keyboard only seems to send random garbled characters, rather than the expected key-presses, sometimes streaming repeated characters across the screen. Curiously, the caps-lock key and CTRL-Amiga-Amiga work fine. I've also tested the cable for continuity and it appears fine.

Does this sound like a faulty CIA? I should be able to swap one out of my A500 if needed, but I'd like some comments/suggestions before I start unscrewing everything (again!)

Or could it be something silly like the A1000 needing a different version of Workbench 1.3? (I'm using my A500 WB 1.3.2 disk)

Cheers,

Mike.
