MCP 1.46 & MUI Problems...

Hi,

I recently (yesterday) tried out MCP 1.46 on my A1200 (KS3.1, 68030, 32MB FAST RAM) and after the reboot had a number of problems.

The hard drive was constantly accessing every second (almost like the "click-click" of the floppy drive!), but the main issue was that when I tried to run the MCP Prefs program, I get an error requester popping up saying:"The MUI Generation Failed"

I do have MUI 3.8 installed (mui38usr.lha from Aminet) on my machine, but do I need to register first before MCP Prefs will work?

The strange thing is that although MUI programs run (apart from MCP Prefs!) fine on my system, they still look like non-MUI programs - in other words, none of the MUI features/gadgets/fonts are present. I'm sure this wasn't a problem when I used MUI in the past (on a different A1200).

I've tried reinstalling MUI, but that makes no difference...

I also tried setting the 'test mode' in MUI, since mine isn't a registered version...

And this is the REALLY strange thing: When I use one of the CU Amiga cover CDs and click on the "initCD" tool (to set up the various assigns, ect for the CD), any MUI programs I then run (ie: IBrowse, MiamiDX) now look like they should - all of the MUI gadgets, features and fonts are there...

But MCP Prefs still won't work...

Does anyone have any ideas when my MUI isn't behaving?

Is MCP v1.46 even supposed to work on my machine?

Ha Ha! So my fingers were going faster than my neurons! Fixed now...

@ChaosLord...

Not sure if that's a serious suggestion (ie: reinstall after) or you just don't like MCP...?

I just ran the MCP 1.46 install and accepted all the default suggestions (and default config).

I have no idea what options I have set up, since I can't get into the prefs program... It was all working fine with the older version I had (1.30)

It definitely has some problems (apart from the MUI) issues, since my hard drive is constantly accessing (almost in the same was as the floppy drive "click-click-click") and there's some system info-bar half-way down the screen is some horrible colour (light pink from my MWB palette).

I'll give snoopdos a go and see what it shows...

A couple of things; obviously it seems to need a registered version of MUI to run (missing the keyfile) and the NList class...

Thanks again for your help.

I've added the missing libs and MCP prefs now starts fine.

MCP 1.46 is still a bit of mess when I start it though - the hard-disk is click-click-clicking away and accessing like crazy and there's that

Maybe I'll just disable all the patches/options and enable them one by one...

Maybe I should just stick with MCP 1.30?

Is there anything notable that v1.46 provides?

It's still strange how none of my MUI apps are showing any of the MUI gadgets or font on any of the windows though - any idea what could cause this?

Hi,

I finally have everything working...

My MUI install seemed to be missing quite a few library files for some unknown reason - I fixed that.

I started from scratch with MCP 1.46 and tracked down the offending patches.

It's now working fine...

Hi RMK305,

The ones which were a pain were the "Log book" and "New Clock".

The former causes constant disk access in short bursts - presumably write log entries to disk.

New clock had a rotten colour-scheme (on my 8 colour MWB system) and was half way down the screen on the right.

It would be better if these two were switched 'off' in the default MCP setup.

The title clock patch is also annoying, as it flickers/redraws every time the amount of chip/fast RAM is updated in the Workbench title-bar... Don't know if there's any way around this?
