Hi all,
I am just trying to get my A1200 out of retirement, I power it up, and the HD
is dead.
==================================
maybe it isnt dead! maybe everything is alright!
Let me explain,
When things got really bad with the Amiga scene, I left computing altogether
for some years. Eventually I decided to return,
I switched on my A1200 and it was non functioning.
I kept trying things and gave up, I went out for some reason,
when I returned I found I had left the computer on for some hours.
Switched it off, later switched it on and everything was fine.
It booted off the hard disk fine.
What had happened is that some rechargable battery inside had run flat.
By leaving the machine on for some hours the battery had got
recharged fully and it could boot properly.
A year or so later I hadnt been able to use my A1200 for some months.
I turned it on and no action, this time I remembered,
so I deliberately left it on for some hours,
and sure enough everything was fine.
So possibly this may be the problem,
just leave the machine on for say 12 hours,
switch it off and then on
if you are lucky it may boot.
In both of the above cases of flat battery, instead of directly booting,
the v3.0 rainbow insert-disk image appeared which doesnt
happen usually. That image was so depressing when I didnt know it
was merely a flat battery.
