PCMCIA NIC frustrations...
« on: February 21, 2004, 04:01:07 PM »
I swear I've had the worst luck getting a PCMCIA networking card that works on the A1200.  I originally looked through the compatibility list for cnet.device, and bought a Netgear FA410TX.  Afterwards, I find that it locks up my A1200 when I plug it in (and other people have the same issue).  So I buy a 3COM Etherlink III to use with 3c589.device.  The port that the dongle connects to appears to be dead (no link light with a known good dongle hooked up to it).  I tried it on an XP laptop (I ensured that the transceiver type was set to RJ45) and no good.  Finally, I found someone selling 10 of them for only a few bucks on fleaBay.... thinking ONE of them just has to work, all the same issue.    It's detected, but no link on WB 3.9 nor XP.  So what I'm looking for is a nice, cheap NIC, a place to buy it, etc.  I'm trying to avoid spending a lot of cash which is why I didn't buy a "made for Amiga" NIC at softhut.com or equivalent (though I probably could have paid for it and been done with it by now).  Anyone have any recommendations on a cheap NIC and a place to buy it?

Great!  I sent them an email.. hopefully it won't be an issue shipping to the US.

Thanks!

I was hoping that would work.. nope!  It still locks up upon insertion.  Grrrr... the Ebay seller still hasn't gotten back to me either.  Oh well, I'll keep looking now that I have an idea of what to look for.

Just wanted to post that I'm posting this on my A1200 using my new NIC.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction and helping me get up and going!  Now I'm going to have to get a flickerfixe/scandoubler.
