Where can I get New Old Stock Amiga 1200?
« on: May 21, 2013, 12:25:11 PM »
Hoping that you can still actually get hold of them. Im looking for a New Old Stock Amiga 1200. Does anyone know anywhere that might still sell them?
Thanks.
Rob.

Nostalgia really. Just been diagnosed with the big C and it makes you think about all the good times you had and the Amiga for me was one of them. I'd like the experience of opening a brand new Amiga as if I were back in the day. Sad I know... Just one of those things. I want to play loads of games on it like Frontier, SWOS, Settlers, Battle Isle, Syndicate, the list goes on. I only ever had a hand me down a500 with half meg expansion. My big bro had the 1200 which he's just gave to me but its battered and brown and held together with tape because he'd had it open loads to fit a hard drive etc. I'm pretty OCD when it comes to keeping things clean tidy and in good condition so I want a new one. :)

@royalcrown

Thanks for the consideration with the possibility of the 1200.

If I don't have a 'New Old Stock' one that's unopened though, I might as well see about restoring this old dog to its former glory.

It all works perfectly would just need a replacement case and a new keyboard.

I've seen the keyboards on ebay, not sure if they're original parts but the sellers seem to say they are.

The case would be the tough one though, I'd have to try and find a really good example case with screws and all the fastenings etc.

If I do go this route I'd like to try and find an accelerator with some ram and a 4GB CF HD to make it a bit more beefy.

Hi VingtTrois, I have just followed the link you posted and sent an email enquiring.
Do you know if there is any specific info that he'd want? Just to make sure I increase any chances of getting one if there are any.

:)

Wow, well they may be a different set of circumstances but im sure wanting to be toast is just as painful as not wanting to be but being told you might have to be, if that makes any sense. Well I'm really glad it's helped you. It's been an eye opener for me. Been looking back at old photographs from when I was a kid and getting in touch with old friends. It's helped to be able to value the life I've had so far. You should try and do the same with other aspects of your life as you did with the Amiga. Might be the key for us both. Apologies to all for the morbidity I've brought to the post. But getting back to the Amiga, going backwards is the way forward. I want a bit of an animal of a machine that I can fire up all the old games on with ease. I don't want to cut holes anywhere or Dr the case. Just want it to look standard and clean. :)

Doh... just missed out on an 8mb expansion fornthe 1200. Think it was a Amitek 1209. Wasnt an accelerator though so was ummin and arrrin. Went for 25 quid buy it now. Probably should have got it. Ideally want an 030 at 42mhz or something along those lines don't want to spend too much but I know these things are collectors items now.

@Damon

How did you manage to get the amiga from Petro? I've mailed twice expressing interest with no response. What kind of info did you put in your initial mail to him?

Also what kind of condition did yours arrive in? Did you get instructions and were the cables and psu discoloured. I've read some forums saying the extras are sometimes missing or come in poor condition.
I thought the whole point was tonget something new but old.

Thanks.
Rob

It's a bit more money, but, I'd recommend one of the new ACA model accelerators from Amigakit.  They have an efficient flow and come with an ocean of memory.

The only snag is ensuring that you have a compatible motherboard revision.  I have 2 with rev 1D4 that I could never get working, even with the published modifications.  I have another 1200 (don't know the rev), that it was plug-n-play.  It is very impressive accelerator when it works.

As you might bave guessed I know very little about accelerated amigas. Ive seen some on ebay at 42 mhz. Is thjs clock speed irrelevant and afe there other important factors to consider when buying an accelerator. The fastest one on amigakit seemed to be 030 @ 30mhz with 128mb. Is this fast enough to play 3d games like doom alienbreed 3d and quake conversions?
I don't need it to be a supercomputer but I'd like it to be good enough if I did decide to tinker with the likes of those.

Ta.

Cheers mate, I'll keep my eyes open for that info. Not sure I'll need that kind of ram though. I won't be a hardcore app user. Just for games and a bjt of dpaint. Maybe browse the web if I can figure out how to hook it up. :)

Not to worry thrn with regards to doom. Is there any point in me getting an 030 then if im just gonna play old amiga games like frontier and settlers or am I just being really silly? Who woild benefit from say a 30mhz 030 with 8mb of ram and wbo would benefit from 128?
Im nuzt trying to make sure I'm covered if I become adventurous.

Whats this brown sticky residue that people speak of on the wires? Lol.
Sounds awful. I can't beleieve there is NOS still kicking about. It's ridiculous after such a long time of the company going bust. Surely someone somewhere should have sold every last one by now!! :S

I dont really want to play quake or doom. I just see it as the absolute limit of what I'll ever want to do with a  amiga. Just to be safe. I've got an animal of a pc, I just want to pretend I live in the early nineties again. :)
